Welcome Member Workers!
On this page we will post details on upcoming member work opportunities. We've also included a projected calendar of farm
tasks week by week throughout the growing season.  This calendar is subject to change dependent on weather and timing of
previous tasks, and jobs may vary by several weeks, but gives you a general idea of when tasks may take place to help you
plan when you would like to fill your work hours.

Our standing member work days are
Tuesday mornings from 8 am to 12 noon, beginning on Tuesday May 4th.  Anyone
can come out at this time to work. You do not need to sign up in advance for Tuesday work days - though it is always helpful
for us to know who is coming to plan the work and in case we need to contact you with any schedule changes.

We will also have many
weekend work days oriented around major jobs which need many hands. These will be announced
in advance and posted below. You may need to sign up in advance for these. Check back often for updates!

Week Of
Main Task
Work Description
April 10
Farm Fencing
This year we are moving to a new field which we will be fencing with 7' high mesh
fencing.  This project will involve helping drill holes with the tractor, putting in posts,
and stretching fencing.
RESCHEDULED TO MAY 23rd
April 17
Wake The Dead
Now's the time to uncover perennials and see what made it through the winter.  We
will also be transplanting grapes and raspberries.  Tasks will involve raking, digging,
transplanting & mulching.
April 24
Cooler Construction
We have an old walk-in cooler which was donated to the farm a few years back.
We will be pouring the concrete floor, building outer insulated walls, and after a
week, putting the cooler itself together.
POSTPONED UNTIL FALL
May 1
Early Tomato Planting
Time to start getting greenhouse transplants into the ground.  This week we will be
planting early tomatoes, spring brassicas(cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower), and
midseason potatoes.
May 8
Onion Planting
We have more than 3,000 sweet and red onion plants to get in the ground!  There
should be 1000 strawberry plants as well.
May 15
Weeding Strawberries
Strawberries are flowering and its time to clear the weeds from the patch.  Early
cucumbers and summer squash also need to go in the ground.
May 22
***Tomato Planting***
Biggest planting week of the season.  Main crop tomatoes, peppers, eggplant &
flowers all need to go in the ground.  Tomato planting also includes pounding in
stakes, trellising and mulching with round bales.
May 29
Squash Planting
The weather is turning mild and the most tender transplants can now go in the
ground.  Melons, summer squashes, and celery as well as summer broccoli, storage
onions and leeks.
June 5
***Weeding Onions***
The first big weeding of the season.  We've learned from experience how important
it is to stay on top of the weeds.  This week we'll be cleaning up the brassicas and
onions.
June 12
Late Tomato Planting
Late tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers get transplanted now.  There will also be
plenty of weeding to do.
June 19
Strawberry Picking (Yum!)
That's right, you can work off your hours picking these ruby treasures.  The one
big drawback being you have to share your harvest with the rest of the CSA.
June 26
Summer Solstice
Aside from weeding and harvesting, many hours this week are spent preparing for
our big solstice festival.  We could use help preparing on Friday, hosting on
Saturday, and cleaning up on Sunday.
July 3
Weeding Beans
The first bean plantings will need weeding now as will melons and squashes.  This
week we also need to mulch the winter squashes, which are beginning to vine.  This
week we also need to plant fall brassicas.
July 10
***Weeding Carrots***
Aghhhh, save us from the weeds!  The heat is on and the only thing growing faster
than our crops are the weeds.  A big weeding of carrots and many other crops.
July 17
Early Potato Harvest
The first new potatoes should be ready for digging now.  While not easy, digging up
these treasures is very satisfying.  There's also plenty of weeding to do and the pea
vines and trellises need to come down too.
July 24
Weeding Beets
Planting is mostly over and the main harvest season is getting going.  We'd better
make sure we are keeping up with the weeds!
July 31
Garlic Harvest
Handy with a garden fork?  Garlic needs to come out of the ground now and get
hung in the shed loft to dry.  Many hands make light work.
August 7
Bumper Picking
Tomatoes and peppers should be in full bounty by now and we'll need to pick
extras for canning. This is also the week of our Midsummers Farm Day, when
members are invited to harvest their own weekly share. (
Note: the Midsummers
Day does not count toward the member work commitment)
August 14
***Weeding Cabbage***
The last big weeding of the season.  By the end of August, cooler temps and
shorter days dramatically slow weed germination and growth.  Now is the time to
clean the weeds out of the fall crops.
August 21
Midseason Potato Harvest
More treasure hunting. We should have some interesting varieties this year from
our Cornell/NOFA-NY Potato trial.
August 28
Weeding ???
By now we know how well we weeded all summer.  Any weeds still standing are
certainly seeding and need to get cleared out quick!  As the saying goes, "A year in
seed takes seven to weed."
