Foxtail News and Notes updated June 16, 2013
~ CSA Week #3 brings a few new items to share boxes: broccoli raab, garlic scapes and
mushrooms from neighboring Bulich Farm. This week's newsletter is now posted.
~ Fruit shares finally begin this week! Our own strawberries are still taking their time with the
wet weather, so we're getting berries this week through our partnership with neighbors at
Stanton's Farm in Feura Bush. Don't forget to take your fruit bag when you pick up your box!
~ Field update: things are pretty muddy, but hopefully will dry out this week. There are lots of
things out there, they just need some warm dry days to pop.
~ Summer officially begins this week, kicked off as always with our annual Summer Solstice
Celebration: June 22-23. We hope to see you there!
~ We need egg cartons! If you have any extras please send them our way - you can leave them
in your empty returned share box any time.
~ It's time to sign up for your work shifts! We need hands nearly every Sunday and Wednesday
morning from 9-11:30 a.m. Other selected shifts are also available. We have a special need for
harvest helpers on delivery days in the fall after our team members head back to school. A full
schedule of available work opportunities is will be posted shortly.
~ Our Homesteading Workshop series continues in two weeks Sunday June 30 with Preserving
the Harvest: Freezing Seasonal Fruits & Vegetables. Freezing is one of the easiest and most
economical ways to save food for the winter. Come spend some time on the farm to learn more
about this practical skill hands-on. You'll even leave with some produce for your own freezer!
Advance registration recommended.
~ Get your kids - and yourself - in the dirt at our first Family Farm Day Sunday July 14 from
12:30 - 2:00 pm. These special days bring kids (and grown-ups) face-to-face with how food is
produced on a working family farm. There is no better way to help kids learn where their food
comes from than to see (and touch, smell, and taste) it first hand! Registration is appreciated.
